All the factors that are good for health is called as Pathyam. According to Charaka Acharya, avoiding deviation from normalcy is called Pathyam. Ayurveda science explains all the good and bad factors of life. Ayurveda always suggests the good factors for maintaining a healthy state. All those regimens, diet and other factors which causes bad impact on health is called as Apathya. According to the condition of an individual, we prescribe Pathyam along with our other treatment procedures.
Pathyam is adviced according to the condition of an individual and nature of a medicine. Some food substances and regimen are prohibited in certain diseases. Certain medicines are also contraindicated with few food substances and regimen. All such advices mentioned in order retain health, advised by the doctor must followed for attaining best results. Incompatibility is given with the term Virudham in Ayurveda. Virudham is a combination of two substances which proves to be unhealthy or harmful. In Ayurveda there are 18 types of such combinations are mentioned. Few among them are,

Ayurveda treatise named Charaka Samhita has divided stomach into 3 parts. One part for liquids, one part for doshas and the third part for food. According to Charaka Samhita a person is supposed to consume one third of his/her stomach in one time. The second meal should be taken only after the complete digestion of the first meal.
Ayurveda also suggests certain rules for eating food.
